Eddie Brock has become the new King in Black, leaving his son Dylan to fend for himself as Eddie travels through space attempting to right the wrongs committed by the former God of Symbiotes, Knull. Dylan meanwhile is dealing with his own personal struggles, as any normal teenager would. Dylan is far from normal though, which makes his father’s absence sting that much more. This has led to Dylan getting into frequent fights at school. To further complicate matters, the Venom symbiote has gone missing.

The Fourth Beatle

As Dylan Brock comes home to an empty house yet again, Eddie Brock wages a battle in space against Skrull pirates who have hijacked a ship. Eddie also has four symbiote allies with him whom he has named after members of the Beatles. Unfortunately, something is very wrong with “Ringo.” Eddie takes control of “George,” only to find that Ringo has murdered the surviving crew members. He delivers an ominous warning to Eddie before vanishing: “Don’t get too comfortable on your throne.”

Don’t bond with the symbiote

After a few weeks, Eddie returns home and tells Dylan to pack up so they can leave. After Eddie leaves the room, things get strange when Dylan gets a phone call from Eddie… Only it’s a different Eddie, and he instructs Dylan to escape through his window to avoid the imposter, and then meet him at a motel. He gives Dylan one important reminder in case he runs into Venom: “Don’t bond with the symbiote.”

A Glimpse into the Future

Eddie waits for Dylan to meet him at a local motel. As he ponders the message given to him by Ringo, his mind seemingly drifts to another timeline. While in this state, Eddie has several visions including a helicopter pilot saying “the boy is our only priority,” a giant symbiote named Bedlam, and Kang the Conqueror who says: “I tell you this as your oldest friend, Edward. You cannot win.” What all of this means is anyone’s guess, but Eddie is likely catching glimpses of the future.

This is how it all begins

We catch back up with Dylan, who is just arriving at the motel. Before Eddie can warn Dylan, a military unit arrives and blows up the motel. At that moment, the Venom symbiote appears and bonds with Dylan, becoming Venom. In a fit of rage, Venom decimates the entire force, killing everyone. This one moment seems to tie directly into Donny Cates’ Venom run, where a future story revealed a corrupt Dylan killing most of the world’s population.

So that was how my story ended

Eddie wakes up in a strange colorful land that looks like something out of a dream. There he is greeted by an extraterrestrial being who says to Eddie, “This is your first step on a long, long road, but I’ll be with you every step of the way. I am Meridius, my friend, and here at the furthest end of all that is, I welcome you to my garden.”

A New Era of Venom

It appears that Venom is in good hands with writers Al Ewing and Ram V. Bryan Hitch is also doing a wonderful job with the artwork. While it was always going to be a tall order for whoever took over for Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman, the future still looks extremely bright for Venom!
