For those fans who were disappointed when Netflix was forced to drop their Marvel television shows a few short years ago, good news appears to be on the horizon. The show at the center of that hugely successful run, Daredevil, is primed for a comeback. A new series has been ordered for Disney Plus, titled: Daredevil: Born Again. It was announced over the weekend by Kevin Feige at Marvel’s San Diego Comic Con panel. Here’s what we know so far about the upcoming series.

Returning Cast

First and foremost, both Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio will be returning as Daredevil and Wilson Fisk. This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise as both actors have already made appearances as their respective characters in other Marvel projects following Daredevil’s cancellation. Cox made a cameo appearance in Spiderman: No Way Home, and D’Onofrio appeared in the Disney Plus Hawkeye series.

The actors themselves are openly excited about their return. D’Onofrio immediately posted on Twitter following the announcement, simply saying “When I was a boy…” This is a line directly referencing his first appearance in season 1. He followed that up by tweeting out the announcement of the new series with the words “Yes, Mr. Murdock” attached. As for Charlie Cox, a preview for the upcoming She-Hulk series shows him making an appearance as Daredevil in a very comic-themed costume. It’s safe to say that Cox has jumped back into this role head first.

Super-Sized Series

Here’s the big news. The series will apparently be 18 episodes, which is considerably longer than the original three seasons. They were only 13 episodes each. If the writing maintains the same quality that the Netflix seasons featured, fans are in for a real treat. The 2015 series was known for its slow burn storytelling, and adrenaline-fueled fight scenes, many of which were shot in one single take.

Daredevil was, by and large, the most successful of the Marvel Netflix shows. This was partly due to the fact that the two leads, Cox and D’Onofrio, were perfectly cast in their roles. Another reason was that the series featured a much darker undertone than any of the Marvel movies. With the move to Disney Plus, the only question that remains is if the show will be able to replicate that success.

Release Date

The series will be coming to Disney Plus in Spring 2024, allowing plenty of time for more announcements. As the series moves forward, perhaps we’ll even see the return of some of Daredevil’s Defenders costars.
