“We are poison to you Spider-Man.”

In the late 1980s, Spider-Man donned his infamous black suit. He never could have imagined how that decision would lead to the birth of his most dangerous villain to date, Venom.

+ Battle diorama defines a classic rivalry

Very few comic book rivalries match that of Spider-Man and Venom. The two were once bitter enemies driven only by their hatred for one another before becoming reluctant allies. This 1/6 battle diorama represents a throwback to that rivalry.

Peter Parker leaps into action as Spider-Man, shooting his trademark webbing towards the villainous Eddie Brock. This dynamic pose is a classic one from the wall-crawler. His speed and agility are on full display, and act as his best options against the much larger and stronger foe. The slight wrinkles in Spidey’s costume are easily noticeable, especially the segmented parts. His patented leg muscles show through very well.

The musculature on Venom is particularly impressive. His symbiotic suit gives Eddie Brock a body more impressive than any previous Mr. Olympia. It helps to show off the very alien nature of the symbiote. Venom awaits his quick and nimble opponent from a grounded position, digging his feet in and preparing to utilize his sizable strength advantage. There’s an aspect of pure rage to Venom’s pose, with his left arm raised to his opponent and his grotesque alien jaw wide open with his tongue hanging out. His razor-sharp teeth are also quite intimidating

+ Accurate and simple color scheme

The paint scheme for this piece is a simplistic one, but it is comic book accurate. Spider-Man dons his classic red and blue costume, which looks good. Venom’s paint apps are applied neatly and feature a bit more detail to them.  His mostly black symbiotic costume features the fan-favorite blue tint. The white Venom logo is applied cleanly and evenly. His elongated tongue is dark red, but his mouth doesn’t feature much additional coloring or detail. Overall, the colors provide a fine comic book adaptation.

+ Classic throwback

This statue won’t blow anyone away, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth owning. Overall, it’s a great representation of the classic rivalry that exists between Spider-Man and Venom. Probably the greatest aspect of this diorama is its dynamic nature. You can take one look at this one and almost ‘feel’ the bitter animosity between the two. It’s a great throwback for that reason. It’s also limited to only 400 pieces. It will still cost quite a bit on the aftermarket as well (at least $750).
