“I am Iron Man”

This is the design that began an era. The Tony Stark Mark 1 Iron Man suit led to the most massively successful cinematic universes of all-time, the MCU.

Sculpt & Design – 4.5 out of 5 Stars

+ Excellent depiction of the Mark 1 suit

+ Meticulously detailed

+ Statue has presence

Before the MCU was the money tree it is today, Marvel Studios made a decision to take a chance on a less revered character from the comic books, and an actor with a checkered history. Those two decisions turned out to be the perfect combination. They led to a triumphant tale of redemption, and the most successful movie franchise of all-time. For those reasons alone, this statue by Sideshow Collectibles carries some serious historical significance. However, there’s far more to like about this piece than just history and nostalgia.

For starters, the Mark 1 just has presence about it, and that’s not something that all statues have. This one is large and detailed. It stands out from across the room, making a fantastic centerpiece. While one of the reasons for the Mark 1’s presence is the fact that it’s humongous, it’s the sheer detail that truly defines its greatness.

The armor just looks real. It looks like Tony Stark actually put it together. The ridges on the metal appear as if they’ve been welded together. There are bullet holes, dents, and scratches. The detail isn’t limited to just the outside either. The intricate innards of the armor are clearly visible. There are pipes, bolts, and wires hanging out. The mechanisms that make the armor work are noticeable, such as the treads on either side. It’s a flawless design from the ground up.

Paint4 out of 5 Stars

+ Simple & effective paint scheme

The paint on this piece can be summed up fairly easily: It’s simple and effective. It has to be for the sake of movie accuracy. The Mark 1 is ninety percent silver, but it’s not like the artist just slapped a coat on and called it a day. It’s weathered and dirty and there are rust spots. It’s simply magnificent. A small portion of the armor is bronze, which really pops due to how much silver there is. Other than that, it’s easy to appreciate Stark’s brown welding gloves, the blue arc reactor, and the red and yellow wires hanging out.

Value – 5 out of 5 Stars

+ Definitive Mark 1 Collectible

+ Historical Value

Sideshow Collectibles created a one-of-a-kind gem when they designed this statue back in 2008. It holds up extremely well over a decade later. The details still shine through, and the likeness of RDJ on the exclusive version is spot on. The historical significance of this armor cannot be ignored. The regular edition goes for roughly $1,000 on the aftermarket, while the more elusive exclusive edition goes for twice as much. This statue is absolutely worth it for those who can get their hands on one, regardless of the edition.
