“A hero isn’t the one who always wins. It’s the one who always tries. ”

Originating from Marvel’s Ultimate Universe, Miles Morales is the only other person outside of Peter Parker to have a truly successful career as Spiderman.

+ Meticulous detail

+ Unique symbiote base

A good amount of detail has been sculpted into this Miles Morales statue by Sideshow Collectibles. Miles is in a very dynamic pose as he leaps over the monstrous head of the symbiote Venom, barely avoiding being eaten alive.

Miles as Spiderman looks great in this pose. His lean musculature is shown off well, as are the subtle details in his costume. Miles also features an unmasked portrait in the collector’s edition. His facial design on that portrait is extremely realistic. He has an intense look of determination upon his face which provides a fantastic alternate way of displaying this statue. Overall, this is a great depiction of Miles.

The base of this piece is very unique. It’s made up of an enormous Venom symbiote head that is akin to some kind of monstrous science fiction worm. The way the symbiote is bursting from underneath the ground with its tendrils forward is simply dynamic in nature. Its elongated and grotesque tongue is also reaching out, ready to devour anything in its path. This was a great design choice by the artists.

+ Immaculate Paint scheme on Symbiote base

The paint is somewhat of a mixed bag, but not in a bad way. The paint on Miles Morales’ outfit is mostly a flat black, which is an accurate depiction. The red paint on his spider symbol is shiny, which helps it to stand out. The simple coloring of his outfit also allows the symbiote base to pop. The candy blue and red used on the Venom head looks magnificent. There is also a translucence to Venom’s mouth which looks very nice.

+ Compact size

+ Unique design

The statue is only about 17 inches tall, and not very wide. Don’t let that dissuade you though. The compact nature of this statue is part of its charm. Also, for such a small piece, it certainly has no problem standing out in a crowd. A big reason for that is the amazing symbiotic base. The shiny blue and red paint really pop. The collector’s edition size is 1000. The limited edition meanwhile sits at 500. The collector’s edition goes for $525, while the exclusive edition is $535. All in all, this is just an excellent statue of a very popular character. If you can get your hands on either version, it’s worth the price.
