Happy Halloween! Hopefully everyone had a fun and safe All-Hallows Eve. Staying with the holiday spirit, today we are going to countdown the best Halloween-themed supervillains in comic book history! We’ll call them the Four Horsemen of Halloween. Without wasting any time, let’s get right to it!

Morbius

We can’t do a list of horror-themed villains without a resident vampire. While vampires certainly have a deep lore that far outdates comic books, they don’t really represent the A-list of comic villains. Sure, almost every comic publisher has their own version of Dracula, but he’s not the one who sits atop the vampire hierarchy in comic books. That distinction currently belongs to Morbius the Living Vampire. Unlike Dracula, Michael Morbius’ vampiric impulses are the result of bad science. Attempting to cure a blood disease he suffered from, the good doctor instead turned himself into a living vampire, completely dependent on blood in order to survive.

Scarecrow

As is often the case, the two comic book powerhouses of the last 80 years both have a villain donning the Scarecrow alias. However, nobody’s buying Marvel’s cheap knockoff version. DC comics’ Jonathan Crane is the one and only Scarecrow. The brilliant phycologist-turned-supervillain uses his hallucinogenic fear toxin to terrorize the citizens of Gotham City, and has given Batman a run for his money several times over the course of the last eight decades!

Green Goblin

Can there be any surprise that one of Spider-Man’s oldest and most proficient foes would make this list? Norman Osborn gets the nod over a host of others in the goblin family, and for good reason. For starters, Osborn is the OG goblin villain. There have been many imitator goblins, and even a few that have temporarily taken up the mantle of the Green Goblin. Nobody pulls of throwing pumpkin bombs and laughing maniacally while wearing green quite like Normal Osborn.

Joker

Everyone loves a good scary clown on Halloween, right? Move over Penny Wise, because nobody can touch Batman’s greatest villain. On the surface, Joker isn’t necessarily all that scary in appearance. It’s what’s inside that counts though. A deep dive into his brain reveals horrors that no normal mortal could sustain. Joker is not normal though. Joker is a sadistic psychopath with a twisted sense of humor. On top of all that, he’s a criminal mastermind. Of all the villains Batman has ever faced, Joker is the only one who keeps him on his heels.
