“The greatest villains have always been defined by the men that try to stop them.”

Given the creative freedom to create the concept for a Batman statue, fan favorite artist David Finch provided epic results to XM Studios with this 1/6 scale diorama which includes 12 total characters from the Batman comic.

Sculpt & Design – 4.5 out of 5 Stars

+ Fantastic concept

+ Multitude of villains represented (and an Easter Egg from another of Batman’s greatest rivals)

+ Details galore with each character’s likeness given the same attention

Sometimes a statue comes along that stands out among the rest. That’s exactly the case with the most recent 1/6th scale Batman diorama from XM Studios. XM gave artist David Finch unlimited creative freedom to design this new diorama featuring Batman and several of his greatest foes. What he came back with was a stunning masterpiece. This sculpture features Batman surrounded by 11 of his greatest villains, headlined by the Clown Prince of Crime, the Joker.

This design is definitely epic. Batman stands stoically in the middle of 11 villains, all of whom are focused directly upon the Dark Knight. The villains featured are Joker, Man-Bat, Clayface, Two-Face, Scarecrow, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Penguin, and Bane. They all seem dead set on the demise of Batman, save for Selina Kyle, whose motives are always ambiguous at best; and Two-Face, who is letting his infamous coin decide Batman’s fate.

The base of this enormous diorama appears to be the Batcave itself, which is completely covered in smoke. The villains are emerging from the smoke and surrounding Batman. The stalactites of the cave surround the outside of the base, which mostly consists of the smoke. The sculpted stalactites are realistic and the smoke design is very artistic.

The conversion of the villains is both animated and energetic. Joker takes a starring role, standing behind Batman with his left arm reaching around the Caped Crusader’s shoulder. Joker wears that trademark sinister smile upon his face with a gun in his right hand. Clayface is on Joker’s right and looks terrifying, as does the Man-Bat on the opposite side. Two-Face stands to Batman’s left, casually flipping his lucky coin. Underneath Batman, most of the remaining villains have malice on their minds. Scarecrow and Mr. Freeze aim their respective weapons at the Dark Knight while Catwoman looks on. Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, and Penguin reach out with malevolence upon their faces. Below the rest, Bane emerges from directly underneath Batman, perhaps poised to drag him down.

The details of this diorama are intricate, and not limited to just one character. Batman takes center stage and he looks fantastic. His anatomy is perfect, as are the details on his scowling face. Every other character is given as much attention to detail. Joker looks amazing. Clayface is horrifying and clumpy. Man-Bat’s veins are visible in his wings. Two-Face’s half scarred face is grotesque. Scarecrow’s tattered costume looks great. The Gotham City Sirens are alluring and dangerous. There just isn’t time to talk about how great these characters are.

+ Comic accurate color schemes look great

+ Cleanly painted

+ Smoke Version is extra artistic with everyone but Batman smokey white.

This diorama comes in two distinct versions, one which is entirely painted in comic accurate colors, and a smoke version where everyone but Batman is smokey white.

The full color version looks amazing. The characters are all comic book accurate and no shortage of detail was spared for each one. Batman’s gray suit and his muscles are darkly shaded in both. His enemies are also represented in all of their classic comic glory. The villains vary immensely in color scheme which does a great justice to this diorama. Joker dons his classic purple costume. Two-Face sports a white and black suit. Mr. Freeze has his silver and blue protective suit. Poison Ivy is naturally green. Catwoman adorns her black leather spandex. It all comes together extremely well.

The smoke version of this statue is much more striking in its artistic statement. In this version, only Batman and the Batcave are in full color. The villains are uniform in color and are one with the smoke arising from the Batcave. They appear as smokey stone gargoyles surrounding the stoic Batman. The distinct polarity of the colors makes this version the preferable one. In my humble opinion, this version is far superior.

Value – 4.25 out of 5 Stars

+ Concept and design are top notch

+ Amazing centerpiece

This rogue’s gallery of villains gunning for Batman provides a stunning visual aesthetic which provides collectors with the perfect centerpiece for their collection. The concept alone is one-of-a-kind in nature with 12 total characters represented. This diorama is by no means cheap. The retail price for this behemoth is $3,499.00 SGD. If paid for outright, an additional 10% is taken of for a price of $3,149.10. The Prestige price comes in at $3,149.10, or $2,974.15 if paid in full, amounting to a 5% discount. Only 388 of the fully painted versions exist, and 108 of the smoke painted versions. Despite the price tag, this piece has so much to offer. The inclusion of 12 total characters is unprecedented, even if a few of them are only visible from the torso up. This is truly a must-have for fans of Batman and his villains!
