We are thrilled to review this magnificent Jean Grey Dark Phoenix statue by XM studios. Getting nearly a perfect score in our three rating categories, this statue is a hot item — pun intended.

Sculpt \ Design – 4 out of 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The pose is dynamic and powerful, something you would expect from the infamous Dark Phoenix version of Jean Grey. She comes with three interchangeable heads which increase in intensity as you change them.

The first head is a more human-like expression that reminds you of the woman who became Dark Phoenix. Her eyes are still very humanoid and although her brow is furrowed, you can still see the humanity of Jean Grey. Her hair, though windblown, remains “normal.”

It isn’t until you get to the second head option that you start to see the sinister aspect of Dark Phoenix. Her furrowed brow becomes arched with restrained fury and her lips take on a smirk of superiority. Her hair is now rising with the wind, or perhaps with the force of her unrestrained potential.

The third interchangeable head brings you a truly villainous Dark Phoenix. Her eyes squint as she unleashes her mutant abilities and her smirk has become a toothy grin of destructive delight. Her hair now roils with the flames of the actual phoenix behind her as she has truly taken on her dark mantle.

The details of Dark Phoenix’s body and suit are superb. Her musculature and her figure are clearly visible through her body-hugging jumpsuit, just as true to life as one might expect. The fabric of her gloves, boots, and suit stretch and fold in all the places they should. Particularly impressive are the folds at her elbows and the backs of her knees.

Her sash cascades in the wind just like her hair. She stands among flames and rubble. And the mighty phoenix from which she gets her name hovers just above and behind her, beak open in preparation for a mighty screech.

Although this is a well-crafted statue, it falls just shy of perfect. Nonetheless we feel it is of overall high quality.

Paint – 5 out of 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Every detail of the painting on this statue is absolutely exquisite.

Starting from the bottom, Dark Phoenix stands atop a pile of charred earth that resembles burnt asphalt. Flames begin to rise and coalesce around the statue’s legs, their color the very essence of fire with warm oranges, reds, and hints of brown.

The fire continues behind Dark Phoenix and above her grows into the eponymous phoenix. Every lick of flame is expertly painted to look like sparks come to life. You will feel the heat radiating from the statue as you look into the fiery feathers of the phoenix that hovers over Jean Grey.

Everything about Dark Phoenix’s suit is true to life. Her golden boots, gloves, and sash are warmed with a hint of brown. The crest on her chest is a similar shade of gold, giving life to what could otherwise blend in to her chestpiece.

The rest of her suit is painted with hues of maroon and crimson. Attention is paid to where shadows might land on her flaming figure. The smallest details such as seams, stitching, and texture are painted with care to give her clothing the verisimilitude it deserves.

Especially impressive are the three different expressions that come with the statue.

The painting on Dark Phoenix’s face and hair is beautifully done. Her make-up is artfully applied on all three, with gorgeous true red lips. Her green eyes drawn you in on her more human expression, the irises almost glowing.

On her two more villainous expressions, her eyes are painted almost completely white, with hints of blood vessels here and there. Her lips take on a slightly more crimson tone, particularly in her smirking expression. When she bares her teeth, the skill of the painter is clearly evidenced as care is given to make every tooth individual and bright.

It would be unforgivable not to mention the delicate skill used on her hair, as well. It starts out a beautiful shade of auburn with red, brown, and golden highlights. Then it changes in the other two displays to take on a slightly more orange hue, and finally to incorporate the actual flames behind her in the final display.
